I think I have a clutch problem!!

Hey Guys!
I have a 94 GSR with 98000 miles. About 2 weeks ago I was driving and I was in 2nd gear and all the sudden it just popped out, it did that twice in one week. Now this morning I was leaving to go to work and I had to turn around and go back home to get something so I though it in 2nd and then I go to put it in 3rd and it wouldnt go in. : ( So I tried 3rd and then 4th and then 2nd again and nothing so I tried 5th going like 20mph and it goes in and as soon as it goes in I hear some noise like a motor moving or gears moving or something. I make it home driving in 2nd and 3rd and I pull into the garage and Im sitting there with the engine still going and the clutch still in and I still hear this spinning noise and when I take the clutch off the noise stopped and if I put it back in the noise will come back.
The guy im going to have look at it is gone for the weekend so I fugured I would ask you guys to see what you think untill he comes back monday.
If it is the clutch what do you recomend replaceing it with?
I also auto-X at least ones a month sometimes twice.

I think that the fact that the noise goes away when the clutch is engaged says it's the throw-out bearing.

It's probably time to replace everything, though.

Wait for better answers! I'm no clutch expert.

Tyler, you should get a new clutch. I can get Gerner to install it for you if you want. You might as well get an upgraded clutch from Clutch Specialties, since it really wouldn't cost any more than an OEM replacement, and the Hub springs on the disc will be better. At the same time you could get a Type-R flywheel and install it, a decent weight savings without costing a fortune. All said and done, you should be able to get the parts for about $450. I don't know how much Jeff would charge, but it will be alot cheaper than a dealer. Call me if you want to chat about it.

I've always thought or heard that not being able to go into specific gears were the result of worn gears/synchros in the tranny and not so much the clutch itself. I had a problem with popping out of gear a few times too. What's the story on that?

Anyone who could shed some light on this subject?

I agree that it's not the clutch. Popping out of gear is not clutch related. Sounds like a transmission or shift linkage problem.

I have the same noise I only have 41000 miles on my 95. I was looking into a Clutch Specialies iron disc and heavyduty pressure plate. call Brian @ 714-525-4272. He also has info on flywheels. You might want to look into getting a diff. I know I am.

when's the last time you checked the oil level in the tranny?
or even changed it?

I will for sure call Brain at clutch specialties. First I want to find out for sure whats wrong. So after I get my teg to Gerner then I will start spending the $$$. I hope it is the clutch and not the tranny because from what I hear the Tranny stuff is more $$$$$!!!: (

I have never checked the oil level in the tranny, is it easy to check? Dont they check that at Jiffy lube places?

They dont check that at the quick change places, at least not every oil change.

It is a pain to check, you have to remove the filler bolt in the trans. then with a finger feel if the level is at that bolt. That is how you know you have filled the trans as well, the fluid will start to drip out of the hole. Stupid design imho, even GM knows how to do this better.

Sorry no experience like yours so I cant add any more info to it. Good Luck. I can add that the Clutch Specialties Clutch is great, I have had mine for 3000 miles and no probs.
